The Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga and the Malaga-born gin brand Larios present their second artistic mural in the Entorno Thyssen, this time in Calle Compañía 15. This collaboration is part of an initiative to project the Museum's collection onto empty spaces in the historic centre, with the aim of stirring up artistic creation in the city and, at the same time, improving its urban image.
After the success of the first mural, 'Bodas de plata' ('Silver Jubilee'), executed by Elisa Capdevila in Calle Comedias about a year ago, 'Brisa estival' ('Summer breeze') is the title of this second work created by the artist Lalone, which is part of the project 'Atardeceres Larios' ('Larios Sunsets').
The proposal was the winner of a competition held in collaboration with the Culture Department of the Malaga City Council, in which other national muralists such as David Esteban, Guillermo Pa and Alba Fabre took part. The rules of the competition sought inspiration for the mural from the Carmen Thyssen Collection itself, as well as the good life in Malaga and the magic of its sunsets. On this basis, Lalone proposes a contemporary interpretation of the work 'Días de verano' ('Summer Days’) by the Spanish painter Vicente Palmaroli in 1885, which is on display at the Museum.
Inspired by the original painting, which depicts a lady of the haute bourgeoisie seated by the seashore who stops her moment of reading to look at the viewer, Lalone has chosen to tackle "a reinterpretation that faithfully honours most of the original composition, maintaining the same concept of the beach and only making a change in the central figure to replace the young woman with a more contemporary figure, capable of communicating more personal and authentic sensations," as the artist explains. Visitors can learn more about Lalone's inspiration and the original painting by scanning the QR code below the work.
The scene also takes us to Mediterranean sunsets, a unique moment that Larios invites us to enjoy in a relaxed, unhurried way, enjoying the small pleasures, as one lives naturally in the city. The execution of the work, finally carried out by Lalone in collaboration with the urban artist Nesui, began on 2 October and from today it can be seen in its entirety at number 15 Calle Compañía.
The manager of the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga, Javier Ferrer, explains that this collaboration with Larios and the City Council "allows them to contribute once again to the improvement of the city. This beautiful creation by Lalone adds another artistic surprise for pedestrians, as well as updating and indirectly projecting the beauty of the Carmen Thyssen Collection."
Tiago Andrade, Head of Marketing Larios & White Spirits adds: "At Larios we share a very special relationship with the city where we were born, so we are proud to continue to show our commitment to Malaga through the development of joint cultural activities in the city."
